Behind every hedgerow and down every cobblestone street or behind every farm house in Normandy lies a story about both tragedy and perseverance. This is the story of the conqueror, the liberator and those caught in between. The story of WWII, France and Normandy is a human story that through our intimate understanding, grows our appreciation for the freedoms which we in embrace, even more than would could have imagined. This tour aims to examine both the tactical and human element of those first few pivotal days when the freedom of the world hung in the balance.

Two Day Tour

Day 1: Omaha Beach

The day starts at the eastern most end of the US landing beach, high above the bluff, in the original trenches carved for defensive purposes by the German army. Here we will have a panoramic view of the entire length of the beach for which the Americans fought bravely to capture. Stand in the same location in which the Medal of Honor was earned early that morning before we make several subsequent stops to learn about the events as June 6th, 1944 progressed. A highlight of the day is a stop at the American cemetery where more than 9,380 military dead rest.

Day 2: Utah Beach

This day focuses on the United States airborne contribution to the battle and the strategic role it played during the day, the victories gained, and the losses suffered. Fans from the HBO series, Band of Brothers will recognize some of the stops but many more lesser known yet equally as important sites will be visited.
